The big kanji read kitsunegami, a translation for "fox spirit". The notion of spirit is a bit tricky to translate, as concepts overlap between cultures rather than being direct equivalents. The word I have used for spirit, kami (vocalised to -gami as part of a compound here) is often translated as "god" in English, which is misleading due to our judeo-christian cultural preconceptions of what gods are like being totally different from pantheistic shinto. It is, however, a passable equivalent to spirit. ...sorry, translator's glee there.

The small kanji by the side are a poem by the famous haiku poet Yosa Buson, reading kindachi ni / kitsune baketari / yoi no haru , which means "In the spring night, a fox changes himself into a young prince". I thought it went well with your request, so I stuck it in.
